Get those spool shaft bearings safely replaced with a pin-punch ergonomically designed to protect your spool and pin.

* Take care when removing and re-setting the pin. Ensure punch remains straight during removal to protect the pin from bending or warping. When replacing the pin, ensure that it is set very evenly. An uneven pin can cause a "grinding feeling" during retrieve as the pin also engages the pinion gear. (Check your grinding reels for this! Even a small amount of deviation in the pin can cause this as the pinion also gets worn down over time.)
